Faybee Finds Peace Within Uncertainty On New Single "Fair"

Faybee returns with her second single this fall, following up pop-smash "Thank God", with the smoother, sultry "Fair" featuring frequent collaborator l.ucas, who this time offers additional vocals outside of production and engineering.

While the dimmer sonic appeal of "Fair" is in stark contrast to the upbeat, brightness of "Thank God", the sentiment remains the same: Faybee is on a mission to take control of her own narrative and re-shift focus. "Thank God" saw her euphorically rid herself of negative energy and forge a new path forward, while "Fair" acts as the aftermath of that realization. Most of us would like to think that when we make a major positive decision for ourselves, that suddenly the entire landscape of our lives automatically changes for the better. And while in the moment we may feel that to be the case, the reality is change doesn't magically happen overnight; there's a period of time afterwards that can be uncertain as we attempt to unlearn the behaviors that got us in that bad space initially. And once that initial exhilaration of putting yourself first (i.e "Thank God") wears off, is when your fortitude is really tested. "Fair" ultimately encompasses that next stage of the unknown, both audibly and visually.

In terms of the former, Faybee croons sentiments of leaving the past behind and moving towards the future "cutting out toxins" that should've been removed sooner, while "tending to [her] garden]" in order to watch something new grow, metaphorically driving home the point that she's building her foundation back from the ground up, something she had been neglecting for some time. Her message in continuing to forge onward despite the inevitable unfairness of life, is vital in achieving "ascension", in whatever way you interpret that for yourself.

This time, "Fair" is accompanied by a deeply captivating visual which sees both Faybee and l.ucas seemingly wandering through a maze of staircases, a visual metaphor of the mind trapping itself in its old habits. However, the graceful way in which both Faybee and l.ucas react to the apparent disorientation is reflective of how to handle life's adversities. If we can remain poised rather than panicked in these moments of misfortune, then maybe we'd be better equipped to handle them, and ultimately find ourselves outside of the maze, rather than perpetually within the confinements of its walls.
