We are certainly no strangers to Faybee's music over the years, having written for past singles "Nicely" in 2023, along with "She a Star" and "Come My Way" featuring Timi O back in 2022. She also performed at our December 2023 show "The Fire Inside" at Middle East Upstairs.
Given all of our history with Faybee, it goes without saying we're always excited to hear new music from her, but this brand new release "Thank God" (with super-producer l.ucas handling production and engineering) is by far our favorite yet. It seems genuinely impossible to hear this song and not feel the graceful energy throughout every fiber of your being when that choral hook floods your ears. The catchy repetition of "...oh my god" line endings along with the immersive production breakdown is a heavenly pairing that any pop song strives to achieve.
It's obvious Faybee has gone through her fair share of heartbreaks, trials and tribulations (honestly, who hasn't?) as she describes the times of "[crying] over broke dudes" and "lessons [she's] learned". But these insecurities are quickly glossed over, and consequently stifled by an abundance of gratitude that shields any insecurities threatening to resurface.
When she does mention these few cynical moments of reflection, it feels as though Faybee is almost referring to someone else: a younger version of herself she no longer identifies with or recognizes. After all, breakthroughs like this often come with time and maturity, and that sentiment carries the weight of hope and clarity within a song like "Thank God". Because unfortunately, not every person is able to overcome their own intrusive internal debilitation; it is apparent that Faybee realizes how appreciative she is to be in this more grounded, peaceful state of consciousness. And it seems the hope is to inspire as many people to do the same as humanly possible.
"Thank God" is one of those memorable pop songs that transcends your average radio hit. Ultimately, when this level of musicality meets powerful writing and a gorgeous vocal performance, divine intervention happens.
